How we research

By DeskFootprint · Updated September 2026

DeskFootprint is a footprint-first guide to furniture for small apartments. We do not run a product lab. We do not claim to have tested, measured, or lived with every model we cover. What we do is select and compare using published manufacturer specifications, retailer listings when they match those specs, and owner-reported patterns that can be checked against a named source.

What we prioritise

  • Published dimensions — overall width and depth, seat height ranges, base diameter when the maker lists it, and clear notes when a figure is not published.
  • Room consequences — remaining walkway once a chair rolls back or a desk sits beside a bed, not just the marketing width on the box.
  • Renter constraints — clamp mounts over wall anchors, free-standing over permanent install, removable or armless options when a desk sits flush to a wall.
  • Documented limits — weight capacity, warranty length, noise ratings only when the manufacturer publishes them. Missing numbers stay as “not published.”

What we never do

  • Invent lab tests, “we measured,” or fake review teams.
  • Guess dimensions, round specs up, or fill empty tables with approximate numbers.
  • Invent ASINs or affiliate URLs — placeholders stay as #af-… until a real Associates or brand link is wired.
  • Host Amazon Program Content (product images or pricing pulled outside Amazon’s allowed tools).
  • Show retail dollar prices in guides unless they come through a currently allowed Amazon data path. CTAs say “Check current price.”

How picks are written

Language is about selection and comparison of published specs: what we prioritised, what we ruled out, and what each pick fails at. Every product block includes at least two real drawbacks. Disclosure sits at the top of every money guide. Affiliate links use rel="nofollow sponsored".

Corrections

Specs and stock change. If a manufacturer page disagrees with something we published, email admin@deskfootprint.com with the product URL and we will update the table.
